Introduction
In upstart years the analysis of sociable problems has snuff it a key area of brotherly investigation and of frequent policy debate. While a concern with the arrest of affectionate problems has been at the heart of sociological, anthropological and sociable policy hypothesis for some time, recent debates and controversies have given rise to a whole thread of new data-based and theoretical questions somewhat the nature of social problems and how they are understood and managed in modern societies. This track seeks to address these questions by exploring both the theoretical and the empirical perspectives that have been used to make sense of a range of social issues that have helped to shape social policies in recent times.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce you to the ways in which social problems come to be delimit within society, and the factors shaping social policy responses to such problems. You are introduced to general theoretical approaches to the understanding of social problems, and to the analysis of a selected group of issues commonly defined as problems within contemporary society e.g. poverty, lone parenthood, nationalism, migration and asylum.
On completion of the course you should be able to:
Identify the briny approaches which have been used to analyse social problems and demonstrate how these whitethorn be applied in the analysis of the issues discussed in the course;
