On January 19, 1861, Georgia seceded from the Union (Golden). Many battles took place during the Civil War in Georgia, and one included the burning of Atlanta. Clearly, there was a lot of work the had to be put in to suppose Georgia and its politics. Reconstruction was a very difficult time for Georgia and other southern states because they were being pass off by a government that was no longer in power.
