Clarissa struggles to balance her intimate life with the away world. Clarissa never lets go of the doubt and trouble she feels about the choices she made which shaped her life, especially her decision to attach Richard instead of Peter Walsh. Even though she knew life would be difficult with Peter as his self-obsession and neediness would have suffocated her, she has a dear for an upper-class life.
