Jilting Of Granny Weatherall

In The Jilting of granny Weatherall by Katherine Anne Porter, the character of Granny is that of a stubborn old woman that intends of herself as a survivor who p disembarrasses herself on the strength she has shown throughout her sprightliness. An outsider may think a woman who is in her 80s has had a full carriage, only when Granny would lead the reader to confide otherwise. To the reader she can come across as virulent and bitter. As she lay on her conclusion bed she tries to influence her family that she is in good health all while she retells portions of her life giving us a deeper look into her mind. Granny Weatherall is a woman in denial about the basic truths of her life and character. She refuses to believe that she is dying and that she never got over the man who rejected her at the altar.
Granny tends to think of herself as a chondritic survivor. After the death of her husband, John, Granny became both mother and bring forth to her children. When reliving moments in her life she speaks of both matronly designate When she thought of all the food she had cooked, and all the clothes she had recognize and sewed (pg 81) and masculine jobs She had fenced in a hundred country once, digging the post holes and clamping the wires (pg 81). Like her last name Weatherall, Granny has been through more than most and has the will and the drive to survive.

The reader knows that she was married, and that she has children, but even on her death bed Granny is somewhat harsh to her care taker female child Cornelia, Its Cornelia. I had to go to bed to get rid of her.(pg 80) It seems like Granny is surrounded by esteemd ones but she doesnt want to let them help her, let them love her. Did Granny let her first husband John in, did she hold up girlfriends, when she tucked her children into bed did she tell each one I love you? Perhaps this is a quality that has enabled her to keep loss and survive hardships.
